What Are Bucket Adapters?
The adapter, also called a tooth base or holder, is welded or bolted to the bucket lip and carries the tooth. It takes the load behind the wear point and sets the tooth position, so it is replaced only when the nose or weld area is worn. This category lists adapter and holder references identified by source model or brand label. Connection geometry, retaining system and lip mounting must be confirmed before ordering, because an adapter that does not match the tooth or bucket will not fit. Send the part number, a photograph of the nose and the tooth it carries, plus connection measurements where available.

Adapter types and retention
Three mounting families cover most buckets. A pin-on adapter is located on the lip and held by a pin through the nose, with a retainer or lock keeping the pin in place. A weld-on adapter is welded to the lip and becomes part of the bucket. A bolt-on base is fastened through a plate or a prepared pad, so it can be changed without welding.
The tooth is held on the adapter nose, so the retaining system is part of the fit: a pin that has lost its retainer lets the tooth move, and that movement wears the nose rather than the tooth. State which system the machine uses - side pin, top pin or diagonal pin, or a bolted base - when the part is reviewed.
The catalog lists both weld-on and bolted forms. Which one applies to a given bucket is confirmed from the existing part, because an adapter is fixed to the lip rather than simply swapped.
| Mounting | How it is fixed | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Pin-on | The adapter sits on the lip and a pin passes through the nose, with a retainer or lock holding the pin | Nose width and length, pin hole diameter and position, and the tooth it carries |
| Weld-on | The adapter is welded to the lip and stays part of the bucket | Lip thickness, mounting position, and photographs of the nose and the surrounding weld area |
| Bolt-on | The base is bolted through a plate or a prepared pad | Hole pattern, the plate it fixes to, bolt size and the condition of the mounting face |
Welding bucket teeth adapters
A weld-on adapter carries the tooth load into the lip, so the joint is prepared rather than run along the outside: the mounting faces are cleaned back to sound metal, the adapter is positioned and tacked, and the joint is welded on both sides where the geometry allows.
Preheat and cooling follow the base metal and the section being joined, so they are set for each bucket rather than published as a fixed figure. A lip that is worn thin, cracked or previously repaired is assessed before welding, because a new adapter on a tired lip moves under load, and that movement is what later reads as a failed adapter.
Send the lip thickness, the adapter reference and photographs of the mounting area. Where the lip is worn or has been repaired, say so, because that decides whether the adapter can be fitted as supplied.
Welding procedure, preheat and any post-weld treatment are agreed against the base metal and the section; they are not specified on this page.

SELECTION GUIDE
How to Select the Right Part
Four steps are usually enough to confirm a replacement reference.
- Identify equipment brand
Start from the machine make and model shown on the machine plate.
- Confirm machine model
Match the model and, where possible, the bucket arrangement.
- Check the existing part number
Read the reference from the worn part or from the parts book.
- Send photo or drawing if unsure
Provide photographs or measurements so the part can be reviewed.

Frequently Asked
Questions
How do I know when the adapter needs replacing, not just the tooth?
The clearest sign is a change in behaviour: teeth that used to last start breaking or being lost, the nose or the top and bottom legs show wear, or a new tooth still moves when fitted with a correct pin. An adapter normally serves several sets of teeth, so movement on the nose is the point to plan replacement.
How do I confirm an adapter fits my bucket when the part number is missing?
Measure and photograph the part: nose width and length, pin hole diameter and position, the tooth it carries, leg thickness and the way it is mounted to the lip. Provide the machine model and the bucket arrangement as well. Connection geometry, retaining system and lip mounting are reviewed against those details before the part is confirmed.
Can I switch tooth profiles without changing the adapter?
Within one tooth system, usually yes: an adapter is designed to accept several profiles of the same connection, so standard, rock and chisel teeth can share it where the nose, tooth size and pin position match. Changing the tooth system, or moving to a different tooth size, is what requires a new adapter, because the adapter is welded or bolted to the lip rather than simply swapped.
Is the adapter supplied with a pin and retainer?
The catalog lists adapters as separate references, and a pin, retainer or fastening set is not included unless it is stated in the quotation. State the retaining system you use and whether the fastening is required with each adapter, because the pin position has to match the tooth it carries.
Is the adapter weld-on or bolt-on, and what mounting details do you need?
Both forms are listed and the form has to match your bucket. For a weld-on adapter, provide the lip thickness and the mounting position; for a bolted or pinned base, provide the hole pattern and the plate it fixes to. Where the adapter is welded, the weld area and the lip condition are as critical as the nose.
What shortens adapter life, and how do I protect it?
Running with a missing or badly worn tooth is the main cause: the neighbouring teeth and adapters take up the extra load, and a tooth that moves on the nose grinds the fit surface that holds it. Highly abrasive material shortens life as well. Replace teeth before they are lost and check the nose each time a tooth is changed.
