CATEGORY OVERVIEW

What Are Loader Tooth Sleeves?

The sleeve is the replaceable tooth that fits over the nose of the holder and takes the wear, so it is the part renewed most often. Standard forms carry a general-purpose profile for mixed and softer ground; rock forms carry additional material around the working end for abrasive, compacted or broken material. On a wheel loader the underside of the sleeve wears first, because the bucket is also used to carry, level and back-drag, which is why material below the wear line makes a measurable difference to how long the profile survives. This category lists sleeve references identified by source machine or brand label. The photographs show the form only; tooth size, holder nose, retaining position and quantity are confirmed from your own part before ordering. Send the holder reference or a photograph of the nose with the sleeve removed.

SELECTION GUIDE

How to Select the Right Part

Four steps are usually enough to confirm a replacement reference.

  1. Identify equipment brand

Start from the machine make and model shown on the machine plate.

  2. Confirm machine model

Match the model and, where possible, the bucket arrangement.

  3. Check the existing part number

Read the reference from the worn part or from the parts book.

  4. Send photo or drawing if unsure

Provide photographs or measurements so the part can be reviewed.

BEFORE YOU INQUIRE

Frequently Asked
Questions

What is a tooth sleeve, and how is it different from the adapter?

The sleeve is the replaceable tooth that fits over the nose of the adapter and takes the digging wear; the adapter, also called the holder or base, is the part fixed to the bucket edge that carries it. The sleeve is renewed far more often because it is the part in contact with the ground, while the holder is changed only when its nose or mounting area wears. The two are listed separately here, so a replacement order should state which part is needed rather than only the machine model.

Standard or rock form - which sleeve should be fitted?

The standard form carries a general-purpose profile for mixed and softer ground; the rock form carries additional material around the working end for abrasive, compacted or broken material. On a loader the decision is usually made on the underside, because that is where the sleeve wears first, and extra material below the wear line is what preserves the profile and the penetration as it wears back. Send the material handled and a photograph of a worn sleeve, and a form can be recommended from the listed references.

Do these sleeves self-sharpen as they wear?

A sleeve with a shaped working end keeps a narrower edge as it wears back instead of becoming a blunt block, which is what keeps penetration alive through the life of the part. Whether a particular reference behaves that way has to be read from the profile in the photograph and confirmed against the part being replaced, because the wear pattern also depends on the ground worked. Laying a worn sleeve beside a new one and photographing both is the quickest way to show how the current tooth is wearing.

What material and hardness are the sleeves cast in?

Material grade, heat treatment and hardness are set per part during technical review, because hardness has to be balanced against impact: a sleeve that is too hard cracks at the root, and one that is too soft wears through. The requirement is agreed for the part and recorded, so it can be supported with material and heat-treatment records within the confirmed inspection plan. Describe the ground and how the sleeves fail - worn away, cracked at the root or lost - so the specification can be proposed on that basis.

Can a sleeve from a different tooth system be fitted on my holder?

No. A sleeve has to match the holder nose and the retaining position of the tooth system it is fitted to. Two sleeves can look close in outside dimensions and still sit differently, because the nose length, the tooth size and the pin or bolt position all have to line up. Send the holder part number, or a photograph of the nose with the sleeve removed, and the reference can be checked against the listed entries before the order is placed.

Are pins, bolts or retainers supplied with the sleeves?

The catalog lists sleeves and holders as separate references, and fasteners are not included unless the quotation states it. Say which retaining system the machine uses and whether the fastening is wanted with every sleeve, because the pin or bolt position has to match the tooth it holds. A failed retainer is a common reason a tooth is lost during work, and a lost tooth leaves the holder nose exposed, so the retaining detail is confirmed against your existing part before the order is released.
