CATEGORY OVERVIEW

What Are Loader Side Teeth?

Side teeth, also called corner teeth, sit at the outer ends of a loader bucket base edge. They are handed: a left tooth and a right tooth are not interchangeable, because the corner geometry and the direction the material runs across it are mirrored. The corners meet the ground first during loading, carry side load when the bucket is crowded into a pile and scrape during levelling, so they usually wear faster than the center positions and protect the bucket corner while they do it. This category lists side references identified by source machine or brand label, in bolted and pinned forms. Position, mounting form, the holder nose and the retaining detail are confirmed from your own bucket before ordering. State left or right as seen from the operator seat, and send a photograph of the corner concerned.

SELECTION GUIDE

How to Select the Right Part

Four steps are usually enough to confirm a replacement reference.

  1. Identify equipment brand

Start from the machine make and model shown on the machine plate.

  2. Confirm machine model

Match the model and, where possible, the bucket arrangement.

  3. Check the existing part number

Read the reference from the worn part or from the parts book.

  4. Send photo or drawing if unsure

Provide photographs or measurements so the part can be reviewed.

BEFORE YOU INQUIRE

Frequently Asked
Questions

Why are side teeth listed as left and right, and can one replace the other?

The two corner positions mirror each other, and so do the teeth that sit on them: the corner geometry and the direction the material runs across it differ from side to side. A left reference will not sit correctly on a right corner even when the two look similar in a photograph, and fitted the wrong way round it loads the holder unevenly. State the position when ordering, expressed as seen from the operator seat, and send a photograph of the corner concerned so the hand can be confirmed.

Is the side tooth the same part as the side or corner cutting edge?

No. The corner tooth is the replaceable digging point at the end of the base edge; the corner and side edges are separate plates that protect the sides and corners of the bucket from wear. A bucket normally carries both, and they are listed as separate references here. Photograph the corner with the worn part still fitted, so it is clear which of the two is being replaced, and send the machine model at the same time.

The corner teeth wear out much faster than the center teeth - is something wrong?

Faster wear at the corners is expected rather than a fault. The corners meet the ground first during loading, they carry the side load when the bucket is crowded into a pile, and on a loader they also scrape during levelling and turning. The useful question is not why they wear faster but whether they are being changed in time: once a corner tooth leaves the holder nose exposed, the holder and the bucket corner start to wear instead, which costs far more than the tooth. Inspect the corners at every tooth change.

Can a corner tooth be bolted on rather than pinned?

Both mounting forms appear in this category, and bolted corner teeth are common on loaders because they can be replaced at the machine without welding. A bolted connection has to be checked for tension when the tooth is changed, because a fastener that has lost its preload lets the tooth move, and that movement is what wears the holder. State the mounting form, the tooth being replaced and whether the fastening is required with each tooth.

Do side teeth change the cutting width or the capacity of the bucket?

The tooth changes where the bucket cuts at the corner and how the corner is protected; the overall cutting width and struck capacity are set by the bucket itself rather than by the tooth fitted to it. Treat any width change as something to confirm against the bucket drawing rather than to assume from the tooth reference. Where the corners have been rebuilt or the bucket has been modified, send that drawing with the inquiry so the corner arrangement is reviewed on the actual bucket.

What should a side tooth inquiry include?

Send the machine model, the corner position stated as left or right and front or rear, a photograph of the corner with the worn part in place, the holder and the condition of its nose, and the retaining system - pin or bolt. Quantity matters as well: corner teeth are normally renewed in pairs so both sides stay at the same wear level, and a mixed set is what later shows up as uneven corner wear.
