CATEGORY OVERVIEW
What Are Double Roll Crusher Wear Parts?
A double roll crusher reduces material in the gap between two counter-rotating rolls. The roll shells are the replaceable working surfaces mounted on the roll shafts, and where the feed has to be gripped or the product controlled the shell carries teeth. A shell is changed once the roll diameter has worn below its working range or the tooth profile no longer grips the feed. This category lists roller shells and toothed roll references. The photographs show shell form, the machined bore and the tooth pattern. Outer diameter, bore, face width, keyway and tooth pitch must be confirmed from the roll assembly drawing or the existing part number. Bearings, seals and drive components are also wearing items on the same machine, and they are normally reviewed at the same inspection as the rolls.

SELECTION GUIDE
How to Select the Right Part
Four steps are usually enough to confirm a replacement reference.
- Identify equipment brand
Start from the machine make and model shown on the machine plate.
- Confirm machine model
Match the model and, where possible, the bucket arrangement.
- Check the existing part number
Read the reference from the worn part or from the parts book.
- Send photo or drawing if unsure
Provide photographs or measurements so the part can be reviewed.

Frequently Asked
Questions
What are roll shells and roll teeth?
Roll shells are the cylindrical working surfaces mounted on the two roll shafts of a double roll crusher, and they form the gap that sizes the product. Where the feed has to be gripped or the product controlled, the shell carries teeth and is supplied as a toothed roll.
How do I know when a roll shell is worn?
Measure the roll diameter and inspect the surface. As a plain shell wears, the gap widens and the product gets coarser; on a toothed shell the teeth round off, grip is lost and the rolls start slipping on the feed. Both are checked against the working range given for the roll assembly.
Do the two rolls wear at the same rate?
Not usually. On a two-stage machine the roll carrying the smaller teeth does the finer work and sees the most wear, so the rolls are rarely replaced on the same interval. Wear is recorded on each roll separately so replacements can be planned.
Can a roll shell be rebuilt instead of replaced?
Depending on the design and how much material is left, a worn tooth profile can sometimes be rebuilt rather than replaced. The decision follows the condition of the shell and its core, so the details to send are photographs, the roll diameter and the tooth pitch.
What details are needed to specify a roll shell?
Outer diameter, bore diameter, face width, the keyway or fixing arrangement, the tooth pattern and pitch where the shell is toothed, and the material or hardness required. A roll assembly drawing or the existing part number is the quickest way to confirm all of them.
What else wears in a double roll crusher?
Bearings, seals and the drive train are also wearing items, and the roll gap setting affects how fast the shells wear. Wear parts are usually reviewed together at the roll inspection so that the machine is not opened twice for the same job.
